Sleep Better Indy: Sleep Apnea Solutions
Sleep Better Indy is a specialty division of Dr. David Isaacs' practice, Isaacs Family Dental, dedicated to helping patients treat snoring and obstructive sleep apnea with comfortable, custom oral appliance therapy — a proven alternative to CPAP.
What Is Obstructive Sleep Apnea?
Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) occurs when the muscles in the back of your throat relax too much during sleep, repeatedly blocking your airway and interrupting your breathing. These interruptions can happen dozens of times a night, fragmenting your sleep and reducing the oxygen reaching your body — often without you ever fully waking up or realizing it's happening.
OSA is more common than many people realize, and it's widely underdiagnosed — one estimate puts it as undiagnosed in 92 percent of affected women and 80 percent of affected men.
Why Treating Sleep Apnea Matters
Left untreated, obstructive sleep apnea has been linked to a range of serious health, relationship, and oral health effects, including:
- High blood pressure
- Heart attacks and stroke
- Depression
- Type 2 diabetes
- Strained relationships from loud snoring and disrupted sleep
- Oral health problems, including teeth grinding and jaw pain
A Comfortable Alternative to CPAP
For many patients, a custom oral appliance is a far more comfortable and convenient way to manage snoring and mild-to-moderate obstructive sleep apnea than a CPAP machine. Worn like a mouthguard while you sleep, the appliance gently repositions your jaw to keep your airway open — no mask, hose, or machine required. It's small enough to travel with easily and simple to clean and maintain.
Our 4-Step Process
Consultation & Screening
Meet with our team to talk through your symptoms — loud snoring, daytime fatigue, or a partner who's noticed you stop breathing at night — and determine whether further screening is warranted.
Sleep Study or Referral
We help coordinate a home sleep study or a referral to a sleep physician so we have the diagnostic information needed to confirm obstructive sleep apnea and its severity.
Custom Oral Appliance Fitting
If an oral appliance is right for you, we take precise impressions and fit you with a custom-made device designed to keep your airway open while you sleep.
Follow-Up & Adjustment
We monitor your progress and fine-tune the fit of your appliance over time, so it continues working comfortably and effectively night after night.
