What Is a Same-Day Crown?

A same-day crown uses CEREC technology to replace the traditional dental crown process — which normally means a temporary crown and a return visit weeks later — with a single, streamlined appointment. Instead of a physical impression, we take a digital scan of your tooth, then design and mill your custom crown right in our office while you wait.

The result is a durable, natural-looking crown that's designed, created, and bonded in place in about three hours, start to finish.

The Same-Day Crown Process

  1. Step 1

    Consultation & Digital Scan

    We examine the tooth and take a precise digital scan of your mouth — no messy, goopy impressions required.

  2. Step 2

    Design

    Using the digital scan, we design a crown custom-shaped to fit your bite and match your surrounding teeth.

  3. Step 3

    Milling

    An in-office milling unit carves your crown from a solid block of durable ceramic, right down the hall from your chair.

  4. Step 4

    Fitting & Adjustment

    We try the freshly milled crown in place and make any adjustments needed for a precise, comfortable fit.

  5. Step 5

    Bonding & Placement

    Once the fit is right, the crown is permanently bonded to your tooth.

  6. Step 6

    Bite Check

    We check your bite to make sure the new crown feels natural when you chew.

  7. Step 7

    Final Polish

    A final polish gives your crown a smooth, natural-looking finish before you head home.

The entire process typically takes about three hours, start to finish, all in one visit.
