Rinse your mouth with warm water and gently floss around the tooth to rule out trapped food. Apply a cold compress to the outside of your cheek if there's swelling, and call us — persistent pain often signals decay or infection that needs attention.
Knocked-Out Tooth
Pick the tooth up by the crown (not the root), rinse it gently without scrubbing, and try to place it back in the socket if possible. If not, keep it moist in a glass of milk and call us immediately — time matters for saving the tooth.

Rinse your mouth with warm water and save any broken pieces if you can find them. Apply a cold compress to reduce swelling and call our office right away.

Keep the area clean and avoid chewing on that side of your mouth. If you still have the crown, you can temporarily reseat it with dental cement or denture adhesive from a pharmacy until we can see you.

Broken Braces or Orthodontic Appliance
Cover any poking wires with orthodontic wax or a small piece of cotton to protect your cheek, and avoid pulling on loose brackets or bands. Call us so we can repair the appliance as soon as possible.
