I decided to get into dentistry because I wanted to make a difference in how people feel about themselves, to help them feel better about themselves. The evidence is out there that good overall health is dependent upon good oral health. To make a difference and how they feel about their oral health, it means a lot to me because if I get them feeling healthy and with their oral health, then they'll be better off with their general health.
The most rewarding aspect of dentistry is seeing the patient give me feedback on how much they feel, how much better they feel about their smile and about themselves as a result of that. That brings a lot of satisfaction to myself and my team.
My education, I did my undergraduate work at Indiana University down in Bloomington, studied biology. I enjoyed that. I'm still a biologist at heart. And then I went to IU Dental School downtown here at the med center. I graduated in '91 and continuing education courses. I keep up to date on implants and cosmetic dentistry. We have a E4D machine, which we do digital dentistry, and keeping up on how to maximize that.

Dr. Isaacs, tell us about yourself and your “why” for what you do:
“I decided to get into dentistry to make a difference in how people feel about themselves. The evidence is out there that good overall health is dependent upon good oral health. I’ve dedicated my career to changing how people feel about their dental health. It is very satisfying to me when it’s good and that then translates into better general health.
“The most rewarding aspect of dentistry is seeing the patient give us feedback on how much better they feel about their smile, their sleep and rest, and about themselves in general. The ultimate compliment for our team is when a patient tells us, ‘You’ve changed my life.’
“I did my undergraduate work at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana and studied biology. I’m still a biologist at heart, and I feel that has provided a foundation for me to be more empathetic with my patients. Afterward, I went to the IU Dental School in downtown Indianapolis at the med center and graduated in 1991. Continuing education is very important to me, so in addition to the required Dental Continuing Education, I keep up to date on implants, cosmetic dentistry, and Dental Sleep Medicine.”
